Going to the store with a cop trailing right behind you might not sound like a whole lot of fun.
But for 30 Woodinville WA kids, they could hardly have asked for more.
On Dec 20, 2014, the city’s Police and Fire departments partnered with Woodinville Target for Heroes & Helpers – a special event that took kids from pre-qualified low-income families shopping for Christmas presents.
Each child was given a budget, and escorted by a Woodinville police officer or firefighter as they made a beeline for the toy section.
Once they picked their presents and had them rung up, volunteers from Woodinville High School, the Law Enforcement Explorers and the Woodinville Fire Explorers were on hand to help with gift-wrapping.
The annual event by the Woodinville Police Department was organized by Officer Shaman Wicklund, with additional support this year by the Woodinville Firefighters Benevolent Fund.
